Barbara Nielsen Former State Superintendent, South Carolina Barbara Nielsen served 45 years as a teacher, administrator and a consultant. She was elected South Carolina State Superintendent from 1990-98. She served as a member of the ECS Steering Committee and a board member of the Council of State Chief School Officers. Nielsen presently serves on numerous boards including SC Public Charter School District Board and the Southeastern Institute for Women in Politics.
