To Learn More About an Issue

ECS maintains over 250 issue and sub-issue sites addressing education policy at the Early Learning, K-12 and Postsecondary levels. A typical issue site will contain an overview of a given topic, in addition to links to the following sections in the upper left hand corner (click on each for an example): menu

  • What States Are Doing: Collections of state action on a given topic. Includes original ECS research and quality outside research.

  • Selected Research and Readings: Provides high-quality examples of research on a given topic. Includes original ECS research and research from outside organizations.

  • Other Web Sites: Provides users with other organizations that may be interested in given topic.

On the States & Territories page, ECS maintains information – including links to education statutes, relevant state Web sites and newspapers – for all 50 states and three territories. Users may select a state by clicking on it or using the pull-down menu. Alternately, users may access links on the left to view ECS 50-state reports and databases, delve into state policy developments or generate 50-state reports on select information.

To Find and Utilize ECS Work

In addition to locating and disseminating the high-quality work of others, ECS staff produces original research of their own, including:

  • StateNotes and Databases – Typically 50-state examinations of state policies in a given area, StateNotes and Databases are found in the What States are Doing sections of related issue sites.

  • Policy Briefs – Individual Policy Briefs may be accessed free of charge on the Selected Research and Readings areas of related issue sites.

  • Progress of Education Reform – A quarterly publication addressing the hottest education issues, providing information in a concise and easy-to-read format based on the most recent studies and reports

  • e-Newsletters and Blogs – ECS e-newsletters allowing subscribers to stay up-to-date on developments in education across the nation. ECS e-Clips gives you the day's top education news, ECS e-Connection is a weekly e-mail publication with links to key education information and Citizenship Matters, from ECS' National Center for Learning and Civic Engagement (NCLCE) is a bimonthly newsletter that focuses on ECS' work in improving citizenship education in our nation's schools.

In addition to visiting individual issue sites, users may browse for printed publications to purchase by utilizing the pull-down menu on the ECS publications page or by using the search field at the top of this page.

To Find Information on Upcoming ECS Meetings

ECS' core purpose is to enable state leaders to connect with each other and learn. In fulfilling this mission, ECS holds several meetings a year, the largest being the ECS National Forum on Education Policy, which brings together state leaders including legislators, governors, state board members and department of education staff.
