Heidi Macdonald joined Education Commission of the States in May 2018 as a policy researcher. Prior, she worked as a fiscal analyst with the New Mexico Legislative Education Study Committee for four years, focusing on Indian education and teacher issues. Before that, Heidi spent two years as a policy analyst with the New Mexico Indian Affairs Department in Santa Fe. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and German studies from Guilford College and a law degree from the University of New Mexico, and is a licensed New Mexico attorney. Heidi is an enrolled member of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes in Montana. In her free time, she loves running, playing basketball, hiking and exploring the mountains with her wife.
