Sen. Don Schaible was first elected to the North Dakota Senate in 2010 and has since served six legislative sessions on the education committee as a member before becoming chair. In the most recent 2023 legislative session, he took on a leadership role as president pro-tempore.

In that time, North Dakota has strongly moved in the direction of a personalized, competency-based model of learning and away from one-size-fits-all expectations for learning and graduation. He has dedicated his legislative career to encouraging innovation in local schools, all while offering more flexibility and choice for students.

Sen. Schaible is a farmer from Mott, North Dakota, and has served the community in a variety of ways, including on his local school board and as an EMT and volunteer firefighter. He is married with four children.
