A state board member asked for research on education savings accounts and examples of current state programs. Our response includes a short overview of private school choice options, which includes education savings accounts; court rulings that have affected implementation of these programs; three common policy components of existing state programs; and examples of legislation introduced in other states that sought, but failed, to initiate ESA programs.
