How ECS Can Support Your 2024 Legislative Session

The new year brings new opportunities for us at Education Commission of the States to support your efforts to create and strengthen education policies for your state! To kick this year off, I’d like to take a moment to share some of our tools and services that can help your state’s education policies take shape in 2024, such as:

  • State Information Requests. As you develop your legislative and policy priorities for the year, our Policy Team is standing by to dive into your questions. Submit a request for information on our website to ask questions like, “How are states teaching and assessing soft skills?” or “How are states regulating the use of artificial intelligence?” We can provide personalized research in a written memo, or schedule a call to provide a one-on-one, or team-based, policy consultation.
  • State Education Policy Tracker. As legislative sessions get underway, our Policy Team summarizes enacted and vetoed bills for the current year using our State Education Policy Tracking tool. Our staff is also available to provide nonpartisan testimony to legislative committees, task forces, state boards of education or higher education boards on state education policy issues.
  • Policy Reports and 50-State Comparisons. Our team regularly publishes policy reports and 50-State Comparisons that address pressing issues by highlighting state examples with important policy considerations. To anticipate which education issues will be prominent throughout the year, follow our analysis of education proposals in governors’ State of the State addresses starting this month!
  • Newsletters. Receive notifications about our latest resources and stay informed about opportunities to engage with experts by subscribing to one of our newsletters that meets your needs. New From Your Education Policy Team highlights the most pressing education policy issues including our latest publications on the topic. Ed Clips provides the week’s top education news from around the nation each Thursday morning. Finally, subscribing to our Ed Note blog provides you with updates on when posts like this one are published.
  • Partnering for Success Webinars. In collaboration with our Partners, we host webinars that highlight relevant and timely education policy issues with solution-driven considerations. If you’ve missed any of the past sessions, you can watch the recordings on our YouTube channel.
  • National Forum on Education Policy. Mark your calendars for the 2024 National Forum! During our flagship event, we convene over 500 state education policymakers to share their successes and state work. This year, the National Forum on Education Policy will be in Washington, D.C. July 10-12. Stay tuned for more details!

We look forward to the work ahead in 2024! From early care and education through higher education and the workforce, we are standing by to provide nonpartisan research services, updates about trending policies and opportunities for collaboration across states. If you have questions, you can always reach out to me or your state’s liaison.
