Strong Start to Finish is a collaborative network working to significantly increase the number and proportion of low-income students, students of color and returning adults who succeed in college math and English and enter a program of study in their first year of college. Strong Start to Finish works to scale and amplify a set of evidence-based Core Principles developed in response to ineffective practices for helping students master remedial (pre-college level) content.
The network unites policymakers, researchers, postsecondary administrators and faculty, philanthropists and nonprofit leaders committed to creating systematic change to set students up for long-term success. Education Commission of the States and Strong Start to Finish work in coordination with diverse postsecondary leaders and practitioners to guide the initiative’s overall research and knowledge development activities. Initial funds were provided by the Ascendium Education Group, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Kresge Foundation.
